Colour Management – Preparing your files

Why are profiles important?

In order to achieve an exact colour replica of the image on your screen, it’s necessary to use the same colour profile as our equipment.

We process your images using our unique custom ICC colour profile for our printer, paper and ink set up, this is specifically created for processing your images correctly. This means that when preparing your files you are working with colours that exactly match the colours used by our printing equipment. You can download our ICC profiles to your computer to use with your photo manipulation software; this will enable ProPhotoPrints to obtain the most accurate colour match to your calibrated screen (find out more here).

Simply download the profile below and follow the PC or Mac instructions as appropriate.

Converting to profile and sizing images

Please click on "Export"

In the box called "File Settings" please set the following:

Format: JPEG

Quality: 80%

Color Space: "name of profile you are using"

Limit File Size To: DO NOT CHECK TICK BOX

In the box titled "Image Sizing" please set the following:

Resize to Fit is ticked

When you size images you can either go by "Long Edge" which is the length or you can use "Short Edge" which is the width

Set the "Resolution" to 300 pixel per inch

For Example:   To make an image 30" x 20" you would set the long edge to 30" and the resolution to
300 pixels per inch. If your crop is at the correct ratio this will change the short edge to 20" giving
you a 30" x 20" image.

Converting an image

To convert an image to our colour profile, follow the instructions below:

Photoshop CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6 or CC

Photoshop 7 or original CS

The image will be converted to the profile. Any changes will be saved with the image.

Troubleshooting

Customers using the Perceptual intent setting may experience an unwanted colour shift. We recommend the Relative Colorimetric setting for most images but especially for wedding and portrait work where skin tones are particularly important. The perceptual setting is mainly used where there is a dominant single colour.

In case you missed the printer profiles above, here they are again!
